How does "free donation" work?

When you connect to www.clickforisrael.com, this registers an "impression" on our server. Each of our sponsors purchases a number of impressions ($20 per 1000, which comes to $0.02 per single impression), so that they are essentially paying for a certain number of people to view their advertisement.

The concept of "free donation" Web sites is not new. It began with The Hunger Site (www.thehungersite.com) some years ago, and has since been implemented successfully by many other sites and causes.

How often can I donate for free?

Your "impression" is counted once per calendar day. So although you may connect to the site as many times as you like during the course of a day, only one of those visits produces a free donation.

How much money am I helping to raise each time I visit?

Each sponsor pays $0.02 per impression (daily visit). If we have a full complement of 8 sponsors, then $0.16 is raised each time you visit. With the collective participation of tens of thousands of Israel supporters daily, this will make a significant impact on people's lives in Israel.

How much of the money from my visits goes to organizations in Israel?

100% of sponsor revenue generated by your visit goes directly to organizations supporting Israel. Our sponsors make their checks out to the organizations themselves.

How do you select organizations?

We choose organizations that address basic humanitarian needs, focusing on the three areas mentioned above: support for victims of terror, emergency response/security, and services for the needy. At any given time, we try to cover all three areas in our sponsor-to-organization assignments.

We review each of our organizations to confirm they are legitimate, have non-profit status, and maximize the use of their funds towards the programs and services they offer.

How do you know the organizations receive the money?

Each sponsor makes its check out directly to a designated non-profit Israel organization. It sends the check to Click For Israel, where we document it and mail it out to the organization.

Can I donate directly to these organizations?

Yes, you can make donations to organizations directly, and we encourage you to do so. Check out our Israel Organizations page, click on the "donate direct" link of any organization, and follow the instructions they provide. If the organization has no link, we provide an address, who to make your check payable to, as well as contact info.

The organizations we support have non-profit status, so any donation you make should be tax-deductable.

Why don’t I have to click a "donate" button like on other click-to-donate sites?

Most donate-for-free Web sites require you to click a button that takes you to a "thank you" page, displaying ads from sponsors. By putting our sponsors' ads right up front, we can count your "impression" as soon as you connect to the Site, and this saves you the extra step of clicking into a second page.

Our goal is to make it as easy as possible for visitors to come back again and again and make Click For Israel their home page.

How do sponsors benefit?

Sponsors benefit like any advertiser - by making their name known and drawing visitors/business to their own Web sites. Additionally, our sponsors benefit from the good-will and public relations gains in the Jewish community and among those throughout the world who stand in support of Israel.

Please show your appreciation to our sponsors by visiting their Web sites regularly, and help make Click For Israel a success!

Who started Click For Israel?

Click For Israel was developed by David and Kerry Behrendt, a Los Angeles-based couple with a love for Israel and a desire to offer a way for people to help and connect with the people of Israel in a very concrete way, and on a regular basis. We took some inspirational direction from innovative approaches such as The Hunger Site, and decided to apply this formula on behalf of Israel.

The official launch of the Site is planned for the summer of 2003.

Is Click For Israel a non-profit organization?

No, our vision of Click For Israel is a combination of a "tzedaka" (charitable endeavor) and business. We think this formula is the most robust, with the fewest complications, and we would rather be a self-supporting entity than be yet another organization that is scrambling to raise funds. (To that end, we certainly don't want to compete with the organizations we're supporting!)

In any case, the primary "hook" of this site, the donate-for-free component, is 100% charitable. Every dollar goes straight to organizations supporting Israel. Any money we make comes from auxillary features of the site. (See the following Q/A)

How does Click For Israel support itself?

The costs for running Click For Israel (our time, Web hosting, marketing, and other expenses) are paid for through other sources of revenue on the Site, primarily commissions on sales of featured products, commissions on "Mitzva Shopping" (split 50/50 between Click for Israel and charitable organizations), and partnerships with firms like The Blue and White Fund which generate business by appearing on our site.
